There’s an Art to Recycling at Tibshelf

09/02/2016

H W Martin Waste Ltd was proud to sponsor “TRASH” – the Tibshelf Community School’s recycling committee. TRASH stands for “Tibshelf Recyclers are Student Helpers” and the committee has already enjoyed great success with a paper recycling initiative.

To add to this success, TRASH turned their attention to plastics recycling and set about encouraging pupils, staff and parents alike to do their bit. The students on the recycling committee urged people to stop throwing plastic bottles into the bin and instead to bring them to the school, where they would be used to create a sculpture.

A competition was held in the school to come up with the best design for the sculpture and four winners announced, whose designs would be used to create four “prototypes”. The final design was chosen, for a local artist to then create the sculpture for display.

The school and its pupils were keen that a professional artist was commissioned for the sculpture, both to reward their efforts in the design stage and to highlight to people the importance of recycling. The donation made by H W Martin Waste Ltd went a long way in enabling this to happen.

We would like to congratulate the school’s recycling committee and we’re looking forward to finding out what they are going to tackle next!
