Cheshire Household Waste Recycling Centres

Client: Cheshire County Council

H W Martin's activity: As soon as H W Martin began managing the Council's HWRCs we implemented a programme of improvements.  These were designed to both increase the types of materials that could be separated, as well as make visits to the sites a more enjoyable experience for the public.  In these ways we were able to increase the volumes of recyclable material.

Improvements to the service have included

  • Significantly increasing recycling rates
  • Installation of new recycling signage at all of the sites
  • Delivering customer care training to all of the staff
  • Introducing "meet and greet" services to all of the sites
  • Installation of a state-of-the-art CCTV system
  • Introducing a new range of recycling services to all sites
  • Implementing compaction on the site, reducing the number of lorry trips and the overall carbon footprint of the site

Outcomes: H W Martin has achieved significant improvements to recycling percentages and customer satisfaction.  These are still improving.
