Requirement

To assist the Council in its drive to increase recycling rates, by providing a high quality and efficient kerbside recycling collections service. Materials collected are glass bottles and jars, metal cans, batteries, newspapers, junk mail, catalogues, telephone directories and textiles.

H W Martin took over the collections contract from the previous provider and immediately began making improvements to the service. We run crews of fully-trained, hard-working recycling operatives who pick up all the recyclable materials left out by the residents of Chesterfield. We also employ a supervisor who meets residents to explain the service we provide, responds to their enquiries and provides feedback from the residents so that we can pass that on to the Council.

We also manage all the recyclable materials once they have been collected. We do this in our depot site which we purchased specially for the service.

Outcomes

As a result of our management of the collections service, it is safer and has been brought up to date with modern equipment and techniques. All material is sent to reprocessors for converting into new products and all materials are reprocessed in the UK.
