Plastic Sorting

A special feature of our Materials Recycling Facilities is the advanced process for sorting recycled plastics. We use technology to separate polymer types, such as PET, PP and HDPE.

By extracting the constituent polymer types from a plastics mix, we are able to create outputs that are much better for recycling because they don’t have to go through any further sorting.  As a result, much of our plastics output is sent directly to manufacturers, to be used in the making of new plastic products.

For example, our PET bottles are separated out and sent to re-processors to make new plastic bottles – “closed-loop recycling”.

Our HDPE extraction plant includes stages for washing it, ensuring it is free of waste material, shredding it into “flakes”, drying it and then bagging it ready for transport. The plastic flake is then ready for manufacturers to use to make new products.
