Martin Group fleet of nearly 1000 vehicles and equipment whilst also servicing the DAF network as a parts and service agent, we also have a long-standing list of commercial customers.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Chargehand to complement our existing team.
The successful candidate will proactively supervise assigned technicians to carry out the repair and maintenance of vehicles and plant both on and off site whilst remaining productive as a fully skilled technician, including maximising own hours sold.
Working hours will be alternate day and afternoon shifts – 06.00-14.00, Monday to Friday (Days), 14.00-22.00, Monday to Thursday and 14.00-20.00 on Friday (Afternoons) with alternate Saturday morning working from 06.00 until midday.
Responsibilities and duties:
- To ensure the efficient and effective use of assigned staff and workshop facilities.
- To monitor work in progress and pursue as necessary.
- To ensure workload is delivered to a high standard, on time, and in a cost-effective manner.
- To liaise with Workshop Managers and customers as required.
- To deputise for the Workshop Manager when required.
- To instruct, support and motivate the team.
- To liaise with the Part Department as required.
- To be responsible for health and safety, environment, and quality within designated areas.
- To carry out quality checks on MOT’s and random checks as per the DAF dealer standards and as directed by the Workshop Manager.
- To ensure housekeeping to the highest standards.
- To organise breakdowns both on and off site as required.
- To complete to highest standard job cards and electronic admin.
- To undertake the full range of duties of a multi-skilled technician and attend breakdowns at site and home depot as required
- To monitor, report and assist the management of technicians.
Experience, qualifications and skills required:
- A good standard of high school education
- A recognised apprenticeship and qualification to NVQ L3 or above in motor vehicle or mobile plant maintenance.
- Recent relevant managerial leadership experience within the Motor trade.
- Conversant with a Heavy goods vehicle repair and maintenance methods
- A high standard of relevant technical knowledge of modern Heavy goods vehicles.
- Inspirational and motivated leader.
- Enthusiastic and strong communicator.
- IT literate
- Able to work on own initiative
- Pro- active leadership skills
- HGV driving licence
