Delight in Durham as new 9 year contract commences

01/02/2024

After managing the Household Waste Recycling Centre’s in County Durham for the past 10 years, HW Martin Waste are pleased to have been awarded the contract to continue the service starting on 1st February 2024.

Now a household name across County Durham, the local teams have built up an excellent rapport with residents using the centre’s and we are pleased to say we regularly receive compliments on our customer service and support.

Phil Darwin, Operations Director commented ‘Being awarded the new contract for the next 9 years in County Durham means HW Martin Waste can build on and strengthen our relationship with Durham County Council, and we are looking forward to continuing to provide and improve our service for residents’.

An exciting part of the contract is to further develop the Reuse service across the County. HW Martin Waste have already opened a successful Reuse Shop at Stainton Grove HWRC which takes suitable items donated by customers at the Centre to be sold back to the general public at low cost. Through the new contract the company will look to open more like it, as well as working with local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise organisations across the region.

The new contract also has a significant Social Value element meaning HW Martin Waste will undertake initiatives to employ local people from a range of vulnerable groups, whilst also undertaking engagement with local schools to increase young people’s awareness of recycling and the circular economy.
