HW Martin Supports Courage Awards 2022

07/04/2022

On the evening of Tuesday the 1st of March 2022, the Rotary Club of Mansfield marked its 31st annual Courage Award ceremony. The Courage Awards is a celebration of the accomplishments and bravery of young people in the local area. HW Martin Waste Ltd was proud to support the Rotary Club of Mansfield, in celebrating the courage of 12 youngsters from the area, by sponsoring the event at Portland College, Mansfield.

Teachers and families were in attendance to celebrate: Kaelan Emery of Meden School, Ellis Preece of Joseph Whitaker School, Lillie Childerley of The Brunts Academy, Brooke McLean of REAL Independent School, Milly-Ann & Olivia Rawson of The Samworth Church Academy, DJ Nettleship of Queen Elizabeth’s Academy, Amelia Page of Reach Learning Disability, Hope Pugh of West Nottinghamshire College, Storm Reveley of West Nottinghamshire College, Ellie Parker of A Place To Call Our Own and Ryley Briston of Portland College.

Kate Allsop, President of the Rotary Club, presented each of the 12 awardees with a plaque from the Rotary Club and a civic citation from the Mayor of Mansfield, Andy Abrahams. Parents and carers of each nominee were presented with floral gifts provided by The Rose Bower in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

When speaking to The News Journal, Kate Allsop said Courage is often described as the ability to conquer fear or despair. But courage is not only showing bravery in the face of danger. More often courage is the day-to-day determination and hard work of dealing with, adjusting to, and, hopefully, overcoming the obstacles and harsh realities that life may present. It is a quality of mind enabling one to face that hardship with resolution. A resolution with power and spirit — the power to make choices and set goals and to act upon them firmly without renouncing those objectives; the spirit to let that courage succeed by the behaviour and attitude shown to the world about them.”

The Rotary Club of Mansfield is just one of nearly 2,000 clubs within Great Britain. Rotary is an international organisation with an astounding 1.2 million members in over 34,000 clubs spread across 200 countries. The Mansfield Rotary Club is a pioneer of the awards in the local area, with other Rotary Clubs from across the East Midlands attending Mansfield Rotary Club’s Courage Awards for inspiration to begin the awards at their own club.

HW Martin Waste Ltd’s involvement with the Rotary Club is a continuation of support to local clubs and initiatives within the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire area through the provision of funding and resources.
