H W Martin Waste Ltd to Manage Veolia Sheffield’s Kerbside Recyclable Materials

05/05/2016

H W Martin Waste Ltd and Veolia ES Sheffield Ltd have signed a contract to work together to handle the South Yorkshire city’s domestic co-mingled materials from the beginning of May 2016, part of Veolia’s 35-year waste management contract with Sheffield City Council.

The new agreement will see the Derbyshire-based waste management company step in to process plastics, cans and glass collected by Veolia’s domestic kerbside crews in Sheffield. The recyclable materials are presented at the kerb as mixed materials and H W Martin Waste Ltd will use its Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Leeds and Derbyshire to separate the products for the recycling materials market.

H W Martin Waste Ltd will receive 18,000 tonnes of recyclable materials per year from Veolia’s Sheffield transfer station. The MRFs that are owned and operated by H W Martin Waste Ltd include specialist technologies for producing clean glass cullet fractions and for the separation of plastic polymer types, both of which offer “closed loop recycling” of glass jars and plastic bottles.

H W Martin Waste Ltd has been a leading company in the recycling and waste management sector for almost 20 years. As well as being an experienced MRF operator, the company undertakes kerbside collections services for several local authorities and manages and operates Household Waste Recycling Centres for councils across the country. Its subsidiary, Premier Waste Recycling Ltd, delivers collections, recycling and waste management services for hundreds of commercial and public sector organisations, covering an area from the East Midlands to Newcastle.

Speaking after the Veolia agreement had been ratified, Mark Faulconbridge, Operations Director, said, “We are really pleased that one of Europe’s largest waste management companies has recognised the capabilities and technical ability that H W Martin Waste Ltd can offer. We look forward to a great working relationship with Veolia and Sheffield City Council.”
