H W Martin Waste Ltd was proud to continue its sponsorship of the annual Courage Awards, presented by the Rotary Club of Mansfield on 1st March 2016 at the Portland College. This year was the 25th annual Awards luncheon.
The Courage Awards are presented by the Club to local young people, nominated by their school or college, who have shown exceptional courage in their lives, either by overcoming personal adversity or by personal sacrifice for others.
H W Martin Waste Ltd sponsored the Award for 11 year-old Shawn Hornby, nominated by Queen Elizabeth Academy where Shawn is a student, for showing courage in the face of communication barriers. Despite these barriers Shawn has exceeded his targets in art, design & technology and in English.
Shawn was one of 14 impressive and inspirational nominees at the Awards. Speaking after the Awards, Mark Faulconbridge, Operations Director at H W Martin Waste Ltd, said: “These really are brave and inspiring young people and it is great to see the rewards that their efforts bring to their lives and the lives of others around them. Shawn is a shining example of this. It is why we choose to support these Awards each year.”
