Josh and Companions Complete 1,000-Mile Charity Bike Ride

06/01/2012

We are pleased to announce that Josh Slater of H W Martin Waste Ltd and his fellow cyclists Andy Brickles, David Mellor, Vernon Richardson, Alan Maddox and Adam Galley, successfully completed their gruelling ambition of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. The ride took place in August to raise money for several charities; Josh rode for Cancer Research UK. The riders are all members of Bolsover and District Cycling Club.

H W Martin Waste donated the support van and fuel for the journey, which was used to carry spares and provide back-up to the team.

The challenge began at midday on Wednesday 17th August and was completed after 59 hours and 46 minutes of relentless cycling. To read the team’s day-by-day blog – describing the ups and downs of the ride including tractors, traffic lights and lorries – visit the cycling club’s website.

Everyone at H W Martin congratulates Josh Slater and his companions on a fantastic fundraising effort. In the words of the team’s blog: “…with an average speed of 15.1mph, please feel free to try and beat it.”
