Following an audit carried out by experts from an international certification body in March, the Martin Group of Companies has been officially seen to be undertaking responsible and effective action when it comes to our management of Health & Safety and the Environment.
We already operate formal quality, health & safety and environmental management systems, which are certificated to ISO9001; OHSAS18001 and ISO14001. The recent audit has confirmed that we continue to take a proactive approach to our responsibility in these areas.
The auditors spent time at the Group’s headquarters and one of the many recycling sites it manages. A lot of time was spent with staff in order to gauge the effectiveness of the systems, inspecting paperwork trails, interviewing and observing operations staff. The auditors noted, “Records kept indicate a good assessment of performance within the Group; information generated is compared to a benchmark figure for analysis at management review.”
On spending time at the recycling site, the auditors commented, “Documentation and records at the remote site reviewed was in very good order and well kept, training records were well presented and available for all employees.”
It was concluded that “commitment was evident throughout the organisation” to the Group’s quality, environmental and health & safety management.
The audit follows many other examples of safety awards and environmental improvements across all the companies in the Group. It is for this reason that major organisations continue to choose us to undertake important contracts, such as Railtrack, the Highways Agency, Network Rail, the Ministry of Defence, Daf, Foden and many County and District Councils.
This recognition is testament both to the hard work put in by each member of the Group’s staff to maintain a safe and environmentally friendly organisation and to the role of the Group’s HSEQ Manager.
