Recycling Centre Staff Hailed As Lifesavers

14/01/2013

Yet another example of the dedication of our teams to their work was publicised in the press recently (see image below). This time they went above and beyond their already high levels of customer care when tending to a local man suffering a heart attack at Northwood household waste recycling centre near Darley Dale, managed by H W Martin Waste Ltd as part of a county-wide contract for Resource Recovery Solutions (a subsidiary of Shanks Group plc) contracted to Derbyshire County Council.

John Mayfield, 73, was visiting the site to deposit his waste when his heart stopped and he collapsed. The Site Manager for H W Martin Waste Ltd, Andrew Mallyon-Price, along with his Deputy Manager Chris Bills and Recycling Advisor John Kobyashi, administered first aid, including CPR.

An article on the emergency in the Matlock Mercury.

Mark Faulconbridge, Operations Director at H W Martin Waste Ltd, spoke of his pride in the team and the importance of training: “Needless to say no-one ever wants this sort of thing to happen, but unfortunately it sometimes does.  I am pleased to see that the training organised by Ged Pearce, our Area Manager for Derbyshire, was put to such good use by our staff.  What Andrew and his team did was superb and I speak for the whole company when I give my congratulations to each of them.”

The company sends out its best wishes to Mr Mayfield for a full and speedy recovery.
