Toasting Sudoku Success in Chesterfield

28/01/2011

Mrs Viv Rowland from Brampton, near Chesterfield, was the lucky prize winner of Chesterfield Borough Council’s Christmas Sudoku Competition. She is seen here toasting her success with the Mayor, Cllr Keith Morgan and the Mayoress, Mrs Pat Morgan at a presentation in the Town Hall.

The prize of £50 to spend on goods made from recycled material was donated by H W Martin Waste Ltd and company representative Terry Holmes was at the presentation. A toast was raised using H W Martin mugs made, of course, from recycled plastic.

H W Martin is currently contracted to collect the blue boxes and bags that residents present at the kerbside. In 2010 just over 4,820 tonnes of recyclable materials were collected from households using the blue boxes and bags; that’s the equivalent weight of over 600 double-decker buses. The council hopes to increase this figure in 2011.
