Specialist traffic management on motorways and high speed roads.

Sector Scheme Training Centre Team

Our team of instructors deliver Sector Scheme training to both our own workforce and external organisations.

On the 28th March 2002 HW Martin was registered with Lantra as a training centre. We were the first Traffic Management Company within the region to do this and one of the first in the country.

Our initial objective was to deliver Sector Scheme training to our own workforce with instructors who had a background in Traffic Management, enabling the courses to be delivered through experience and not through instructor guidance notes alone. The popularity of our training centre grew way beyond our early expectations, we provided training for competitors and local authorities across the country and still do to this day.

Our Lantra Training Centre has been the foundation for the academy to be built on and we are proud to say we have delivered Sector Scheme Training to thousands of learners both internal and external.

Head Of Performance & Development

25 years’ experience in all types of Traffic Management arrangements as a Foreman, Technical Officer/Supervisor and instructor/assessor with extensive experience of collaborative/framework projects where early involvement is key to success. My understanding of Chapter 8, other associated documentation, Sector Schemes and demonstrable practical experience has underpinned the development and competency of the workforce/management and thus the continued success of H.W. Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd.

Over the last four years the enhanced reputation of the quality and effectiveness of my training has resulted in a significant increase in requests for external traffic management training from specialist traffic management contractors on High Speed Roads and various organisations and Local Authorities for “Traffic Management Awareness Training” for both workforce and managers on all types of live carriageway environments.

Traffic Management 12D Assessor

I come from a Traffic Management background primarily, I’ve been doing traffic management now for around 6 years but have worked in various industries such as Arboriculture/ Mechanics and even removals. My time working on the roads has really helped me understand the need for trained and skilled operatives within the traffic management industry. Throughout my career I have witnessed various incidents and near misses due to unskilled employees that I feel could have been prevented by training the staff to a high standard as required by Lantra. It is for this reason amongst others that I have lead my career towards Teaching/Assessing.

My attention to detail within traffic management has helped me a lot with regards to quality of work and making sure everything that goes out the road is to a very high standard. As an assessor I’m constantly looking for new ways to improve the quality of work that goes out. I'm a dedicated person who always strives for perfection in all aspects of my work, whether it is designing plans for an upcoming scheme or simply tidying up, there will always be room for improvement in my eyes. I have developed natural leadership skills, helping me to train others and maintain a very high standard of work. I strongly believe in maintaining a safe working environment for everyone and working closely with our health and safety representative to do so accordingly.

Traffic Management Assessor

I’ve worked in traffic management for approximately 15 years. I started with KJ Thulborn as a general operative, I worked on a contract for Euromark and was offered the opportunity to be the lead TMO on the works. I then progressed from here to work on a scheme with Amey overseeing surfacing works, my increased involvement in the works improved my ability to liaise with clients as I was attending site meetings and playing an active part in planning the traffic management requirements and beginning to take more of an interest in training. Whilst working for Westcountry Road Management I began my training to become an assessor then when transferring to H.W.Martin I completed my qualification. I have years of experience working on the road and am always improving my knowledge in order to become a competent assessor and further progress the quality of training delivered to the workforce.

Abi Dove

Training Centre Co-Ordinator

I have 6 years’ experience working within the Traffic Management industry. My career in Traffic Management initially started as a scheduler for a groundworks company which gave me a good insight into the extent of the needs of clients with regards to Traffic Management and highlighted areas that there could be room for improvement. I progressed to work directly for Traffic Management firms utilising the co-ordination and organisational skills I’d gained through previous employment and further developed my skills becoming more involved in training requirements, Health and Safety and the upkeep of company records.

In the last year and a half working under the guidance of the Centre Manager my knowledge of Lantra and Training Development for H.W.Martin has progressed positively and I was successful in undertaking and passing my IQA qualification earlier this year. I’ve also been involved in the depot at Mill Place, Kent becoming FORS Silver accredited and arranging Conflict Training for the workforce at various depots which has been beneficial in decreasing incidents and accidents when dealing with the public. I have been working with Capital 4 Training to put a number of members of staff through their Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Rigid Vehicle Driving which upon completion credits them with an NVQ.
