HW Martin (Traffic Management) is proud to announce that, in partnership with sister company, Fewzed, it has been named Innovator of the Year at the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Supply Chain Awards.

The annual awards, delivered by the Morgan Sindall Water and Highways team, recognise exceptional performance across their national supply chain. Each year, the programme highlights organisations and individuals who demonstrate excellence in service delivery, innovation, collaboration, and industry leadership. Winners are nominated directly by Morgan Sindall employees, making the recognition especially meaningful.

HW Martin (Traffic Management) and Fewzed received the Innovator of the Year award for their pioneering work on SAMS — the Sign Asset Monitoring System — developed in close collaboration with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure. SAMS is an advanced sensor-based technology that transforms the way sign assets are monitored on Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) schemes.

The system provides constant real-time data on sign locations and performance, removing the need for routine physical maintenance patrols. This not only enhances workforce safety by reducing exposure on the network, but also significantly lowers carbon emissions associated with traditional inspection methods. Should an issue arise, automatic alerts are sent instantly to maintenance teams, enabling rapid, targeted interventions.

SAMS has quickly established itself as a leading innovation within the highways sector and has received industry-wide acclaim. The system has already secured numerous national awards, including:

  • Best Use of Technology: Carbon Reduction in Construction and Management at TechFest 2024
  • Exceptional Contribution to Safety, Research and Innovation Award at the National Highways Awards 2024
  • The Chairman’s Award at the National Highways Awards 2024

The Innovator of the Year award further reinforces the impact of SAMS and highlights the strength of collaboration between HW Martin (Traffic Management), Fewzed, and Morgan Sindall, Infrastructure.
