The Opportunity:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Contract Manager to complement our existing Management team and the possibility to develop into a senior role.

Reporting to the Contract Manager, the Assistant Contract Manager will assist in management of the performance of our Household Waste Recycling Centres in x2 operational areas to ensure that all contractual obligations are met in full; close liaison with the clients, supervisory staff and support departments are maintained; operational efficiencies are achieved and to pro-actively monitor the facilities for compliance with all safety and operational procedures.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader and will possess a drive for operational excellence. You will work well in a team, possess great communication skills and be able to quickly pick up systems and processes to drive operational performance. Further training and development will be tailored to the needs of the successful applicant.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations across both operational areas, ensuring high standards of safety and environmental compliance. The postholder will monitor operations to ensure full compliance with all Company and legislative requirements.
  • Assist in the delivery of quality and service improvements across both operational areas, working with the Contract team to ensure all aspects of service provision are in line with management system requirements.
  • You will be required to deputise for the Contract Manager and to represent the Company at internal and external meetings as and when required.
  • Build on the lasting relationships with our clients and internal teams to ensure service delivery of Contractual commitments.
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with the Contract team, colleagues and sub-contractors.
  • Inspire, coach and manage the Contract team and the on-site teams to foster productivity and a positive working environment by assisting in the operational management and development of a diverse team of staff.
  • Work effectively as part of the Management team representing the values and standards of the Company.
  • Develop and progress to achieve Company objectives and individual targets.
  • Drive operational improvements by implementing recognised best practices.
  • Achieve performance targets as agreed with the Contract Manager and report progress through management information reports and in person on a timely basis.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of customer satisfaction and site recycling rates with an emphasis on actively guiding and coaching the Contract team to strive for performance and service improvements.
  • Monitor HWRCs for compliance to required standards of operational efficiency. Bring to the attention of the Contracts Manager any matters which are considered to fall below required standards.
  • Comply with policies and procedure, ensuring data quality and compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate (e.g. CCTV usage)

 

Experience, Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Experience in a supervisory or management role, waste management and recycling experience preferred but not essential for a candidate with proven supervisory experience.
  • CoTC qualified in hazardous waste transfer, is preferred, but training will be offered for a candidate with proven supervisory or management experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong organisational abilities, the confidence to juggle multiple priorities, responsible for managing your own workload and ensuring the Contract team deliver results.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills as well as an attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate both written and orally, good attention to detail and to present information clearly and concisely.
  • The ability to liaise with all levels of management on a professional level, using good communication / interpersonal skills.
  • Portrays enthusiasm, a positive ‘can do’ attitude, passion, and an ambition to learn and develop both themselves and their team.
  • Flexibility for travel as required between various sites.

 

Essential requirements:

A current UK Driving Licence is essential.

 

Please note:

This opportunity may involve weekend work, out-of-hours coverage, and extensive travel within the vibrant operational area of Derbyshire and Nottingham.

You may be required to deputise for Contract Managers in our other operational areas to cover absence and / or annual leave.
