The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Shift Manager to join our team at the Alfreton Recycling Centre.

In this hands-on operational role, you’ll oversee the daily running of the site during your shift — ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality at every stage.

You’ll lead by example, supervising staff, managing workflow, and maintaining compliance with company and legal standards. The role involves close coordination with the wider operations and transport teams to keep materials moving efficiently through the recycling process.

  • Plan, monitor, and manage daily operational activities.
  • Oversee weighbridge operations and coordinate transport collections and deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate shift records, including attendance, production data, and incident reports.
  • Monitor site quality, housekeeping, and environmental compliance.
  • Support training, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture aligned with company values.

About You

We’re seeking a confident and proactive leader who enjoys working in a busy operational environment and takes pride in getting the best from their team.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferably within a waste management, recycling, or industrial environment.
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills.
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to obtain).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Computer literate (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Positive “can-do” attitude, with the ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions.
