H W Martin Waste Ltd, part of the Martin Group of Companies, was proud to be involved in an event to celebrate the work of the voluntary sector in Leeds.
The event, held at St. George’s Crypt in Leeds city centre, marked the 2011 European Year of Volunteering and included an Award ceremony for organisations working in the field of poverty and homelessness. Many organisations work in the sector and those represented at the event included: Big Issue in the North, Canopy, Kids Club, RETAS, Space, St. Vincent’s and Urban Sprawl.
Guest speaker at the event was Tom Riordan, chief executive of Leeds City Council. The Awards were presented by Dec Nortcliffe, National Recycling Manager for H W Martin Waste Ltd.
H W Martin Waste Ltd has supported Leeds City Council’s poverty and homelessness theme throughout 2011. The company is also a key part of the city’s environmental improvement campaign and each year recycles thousands of tonnes of residents’ waste through its materials recovery facility located in the Beeston area of Leeds.
