HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd Celebrates Wins at the Highways UK Excellence Awards 2024

18/10/2024

We are proud to announce that HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd has secured two prestigious awards at the Highways UK Excellence Awards, held on 16th October at the VOX Conference Centre in Birmingham. The awards were hosted by TV personality, Matt Baker and sponsored by Heidelberg Materials.

In partnership with AE Yates and National Highways, we won the Social Value Award, sponsored by Ringway, for the A595 Moresby Hall Improvement Scheme. This project was driven by our commitment to promoting local skills and employment, particularly in overcoming the challenge of sourcing labour in a remote area of the country. We worked closely with Inspira, a local employability skills expert, to recruit five individuals from the area, investing approximately £2,000 in training for each. This ensured that they not only contributed to the project but also secured long-term employment with one of our trusted labour suppliers after its completion. Additionally, we took a customer-first approach by introducing a dedicated bus lane and contingency service to keep buses running smoothly and the community connected – an unusual step for temporary traffic management.

Mick Carr, our Project Lead, represented the business at the awards alongside colleagues from AE Yates and National Highways (pictured above).

Our collaboration with Connect Plus, Connect Plus Services and Alchera also earned the Innovation Award for extending working windows on the M25. Dr Ryan Wood and HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd played a pivotal role in this project, which successfully increased working windows by up to 20%. The project demonstrated that temporary traffic management could be installed during higher traffic volumes (1,500 vehicles per hour per lane, compared to the usual 1,200) without compromising safety or customer experience. This added up to 1 hour and 20 minutes of valuable work time, significantly improving project delivery.

The Senior Leadership Team at HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd would like to congratulate everyone at the company and its partners for their incredible contributions to these award winning projects. They also extend their congratulations to all of the winners of this year’s Highways UK Excellence Awards.
