HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd brought a fun and engaging Climate Action and Road Safety Engagement Day to Glebelands Primary School. The extremely well-received event educated Year 4 students about sustainability and road safety through a series of interactive, educational and entertaining activities.

The event, delivered as part of social value efforts for the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet, took place in November 2024 and brought together several stakeholders, including school staff and industry professionals from HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd to create a memorable and informative day for the children.

“The children had a brilliant time,” commended class teach Nicola Folwell, ” and we thank you for coming together and making it happen.”

The event delighted students and school staff, with active engagement throughout the sessions. There was a range of activities on offer – including teamwork-based challenges such as piecing together a giant puzzle – that kept the students highly involved and enthused.

Students also had access to an advanced Virtual Reality experience showing a day in the life of a traffic management operative, plus exciting outdoor activities, which ensured an immersive and stimulating learning environment was provided.

Complimenting the activities, a series of key speakers, including experienced sustainability experts and traffic management professionals, educated the children on the importance of the environmental impacts of highways projects and road safety. In particular, HW Martin (Traffic Managemet) Ltd’s Environment Manager Martine Halford gave a passionate and accessible explanation of environmental impacts.

The children displayed remarkable teamwork, problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm throughout the day. The children were given access to learning opportunities they would not normally have. Nicola Folwell commented: “It really is great to be able to build relationships with teams from beyond our doorstep. The children in Chatteris don’t often get much beyond their town and we’re genuinely thankful for every interaction to show them what more there is in this world.”

HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd generously donated 60 high-visibility jackets to the students, each one printed with the school’s logo to ensure the students continued to practice safety whilst out on school trips.

The school staff were incredibly grateful for this gift, confirming in the school newsletter: “HW Martin provided us with 60 high-vis jackets (with our logo printed on them!) so that we can make any walking trips with the students’ safer journeys (they even left us some adult-sized ones too!) We thank them for all of the support they provide, and continue to provide, us at the school. It’s great to work with teams within and beyond the local community, and I know that the children really enjoyed this experience.”
