Andy Graham, Operations Director at HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd, is stepping up to support the country’s most vulnerable veterans by taking part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out – a powerful fundraising initiative led by the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI).
The challenge highlights the harsh reality faced by an estimated 6,000 homeless veterans in the UK. With the cost-of-living crisis and the lasting effects of the global pandemic, RBLI has seen a 45% increase in demand for its services. The charity provides emergency accommodation, welfare support and employability projects to help veterans rebuild their lives.
Last year, the Great Tommy Sleep Out raised an incredible £1.2 million, enabling RBLI to bring veterans in from the cold. This year, Andy will join influential business leaders from across the highways industry on 27th March at The Trenches, Detling Showground, to raise vital funds and awareness for the cause.
Andy said: “RBLI does incredible work, and we’ve seen firsthand the impact they make. I’ll be sleeping in a reconstruction of a World War One trench – no tent, just a bivvy bag – experiencing, in a small way, the dire conditions that many of our Nation’s heroes endure every night. It’s a humbling experience, but one that’s necessary to drive real change.”
HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd and RBLI are calling on businesses to get involved, donate or take part in the challenge to help ensure that no veteran is left without shelter or support.
