HW Martin Waste Ltd Invests £800,000 in New Glass Separation Facility in Leeds

18/12/2024

HW Martin Waste Ltd is proud to announce an £800,000 investment into a state-of-the-art glass separation facility at its Leeds site, following an extended contract with Leeds City Council to process and recycle waste containing glass.

The site now features a newly installed trommel – a cylindrical, rotating screen that efficiently sorts and separates materials. Originally used to segregate plastics, one of the two sheds on site has been repurposed, with plastic sorting ceasing in early 2024 to make way for the trommel. The glass sorting service went live in August 2024.

The investment has increased the site’s processing capacity by up to 20%, opening up new opportunities for waste management. Previously limited by its lack of glass separation facilities, the Leeds facility can now process waste streams containing products, such as those collected under the company’s nearby contract with North Yorkshire Council.

Once separated, the glass material is transported to the Alfreton site for final processing. The expanded capabilities now position HW Martin Waste Ltd to offer glass recycling solutions to other local councils in the North of England in the future.

This investment marks a significant step towards enhancing recycling services in the region, demonstrating the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
