H W Martin Waste Ltd Wins Civic Amenity Site of the Year Award

06/05/2014

The Landmark Hotel in London on 1st May was the venue for the 11th annual Awards for Excellence in Waste Management and Recycling, hosted by ITV newsreader Julie Etchingham.

There were 11 Award categories in all, spanning projects and facilities from the public and private sectors. The editor of Letrecycle.com observed that “The standard of entries this year was undoubtedly the highest we’ve ever seen.”

Taking the coveted Civic Amenity Site of the Year Award and beating a very tough shortlist of competing entries was Cheshire’s Northwich Household Waste Recycling Centre, managed and operated on behalf of the local authority by H W Martin Waste Ltd.

The management and operational team at H W Martin Waste Ltd has worked hard to design and implement site improvements, covering site layout, signage, customer care training, the introduction of a WEEE recycling scheme and massive increases in landfill diversion rates now approaching 80%.

Site Manager Craig Stevens and his deputies, Nick Senior and Dave Archer, are responsible for making the changes work at the recycling centre; the Award recognises the results of their efforts and those of their dedicated team of site staff.

Speaking after the ceremony Mark Faulconbridge, Operations Director at H W Martin Waste Ltd, commented on the achievement: “We don’t go out of our way to win awards, we simply do a good job and get things right for our customers. If that is recognised in awards then it’s the icing on the cake. All credit to the staff on site as well as to Adam Smith’s regional management team. This Award is for them.”

H W Martin Waste Ltd manages all of Cheshire’s household waste recycling centres under a 10-year contract, with the county now split administratively between Cheshire West & Chester Council and Cheshire East Council.
