We are proud to be continuing our journey as a disability inclusive employer. HW Martin Waste is now officially registered as Disability Confident Committed, holding a Level 1 certificate as part of the government-backed Disability Confident scheme.
This free programme supports employers to become more inclusive and accessible for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions – including those who are neurodivergent. It encourages best practice in recruitment, workplace adjustments and ongoing support, helping break down the barriers that people with disabilities too often face.
Phil Darwin, Director at HW Martin Waste, said:
“Becoming Disability Confident is about more than ticking boxes. It’s about creating a culture where everyone feels valued, supported and able to thrive. By taking this step, we’re affirming our belief that a more inclusive workforce is a stronger workforce. We want every colleague – present and future – to know that they will be treated fairly and with respect.”
And the journey doesn’t end here. HW Martin Waste is already making good progress towards Level 2 certification as a Disability Confident Employer.
Phil continues:
“This next stage recognises organisations that are actively inclusive in their recruitment and retention practices. We’re confident that the supportive systems we already have in place will help us meet the criteria swiftly and meaningfully.”
The benefits of being a Disability Confident organisation are far-reaching, as Social Value Manager, Stacey Parry, explains:
“It not only helps us attract a wider pool of talent, but it also reinforces our values, strengthens our workplace culture, and positions us as a leader in our business community. Most importantly, it helps us do the right thing – for our people and for society.”
At HW Martin Waste, we are committed to building a workplace where everyone can contribute, develop, and succeed. Becoming Disability Confident is a vital part of that vision.
