In keeping with its annual commitment to the event, H W Martin Waste Ltd sponsored the 2019 Courage Awards, organised by the Rotary Club of Mansfield.

The Awards are now in their 28th year and were held on 5th March at Portland College, Mansfield.  Award nominees are recognised for their perseverance and achievement over adversity, their help for others, and for embodying the Club’s motto of Service Above Self.

Amongst the Award-winners was 11-year old Sam Cooke from Kirkby, who attends Queen Elizabeth Academy.  H W Martin Waste sponsored the academy’s attendance

and Sam Cooke’s nomination.  Sam was born with cerebral palsy and four years ago was diagnosed with type I diabetes.  Despite this, Sam’s favourite lesson at school is PE and he is a big fan of football and wheelchair basketball.  Mark Sisson, academy head of PE, explained: “His muscles become weak and stiff which causes constant pain and sometimes requires a wheelchair to keep him mobile.  He has physio, sees a personal trainer, goes swimming and takes part in sports to try to keep his muscles loose and reduce the pain.”

H W Martin Waste is proud to continue its support of this fantastic event and wishes Sam and all the other worthy Award-winners a great future.
