The determination of children and young people to succeed against the odds was showcased at the annual Mansfield Rotary Courage Awards on Tuesday 14th March 2023.
Thirteen inspirational recipients of the awards were nominated by their school or college for “exemplifying moral and spiritual courage in the face of personal adversity and difficulty.”
Now in its 32nd year, the event was hosted at Portland College, Mansfield, in front of the young people’s families and teachers.
Amongst the award winners was Courtney Edwards who attends Brunts Academy in Mansfield. Courtney was nominated for her courage and resilience in the past year. Teaching assistant at The Brunts Academy, Elliot Mack, said it was a difficult time for Courtney, but she has turned it around to be an exemplary student. Courtney, who lives in Mansfield, is particularly interested in sports, art and drama. In the future she hopes to have a successful career in either animal care or hair, make-up, and beauty.
