This award, sponsored by Redspeed International Ltd, celebrates the successful delivery of the A595 Moresby Hall Improvement Scheme.
The award recognised the scheme’s outstanding innovation and collaboration, demonstrating measurable contributions towards decarbonisation while reducing environmental impacts, managing embedded carbon and lowering air pollution levels. Delivered as part of National Highways’ Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), this £16, million net zero project brought crucial upgrades to the A595, a key route between Whitehaven and Egremont in Northwest England.
A priority for the project team was to address issues link to the A595’s aging Victorian embankment, which had shown signs of instability and was vulnerable to flooding due to poor drainage in the area. The improvements focused on reinforcing and future-proofing the structure to ensure the long-term resilience of this essential route.
The judging panel commended the project’s collaborative approach, saying: “The partnership has worked together to reduce the environmental impact of the project and deliver tangible carbon savings while enhancing local biodiversity.”
The A595 Moresby Hall Improvement Scheme stood out among an impressive field of finalists, which included projects led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Multipave, Yunex Traffic, Milestone Infrastructure, Winvic Construction and others.
