HW Martin Waste Ltd proudly sponsored a Leeds wide school competition recently.

To mark Recycling Week in October, Leeds City Council launched the ‘Rescue Me – Recycle’ competition, in which pupils of primary age were asked to create a superhero made from recyclable material. The competition is designed to provide an engaging way of educating children and their families about the importance of recycling at home, ‘saving’ the recyclables from the general waste bin and is part of a city wide focus on increasing recycling rates.

HW Martin Waste operate a large Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Beeston Leeds, which process the Leeds City region curbside recycling and is a long standing partner of the Council. In 2024 operations were expanded at the MRF, which now processes glass, launching a new contract with Leeds City Council. Working in partnership with the Council HW Martin Waste have committed a generous annual social value fund aimed at Waste Education across Leeds, with the Council allocating £200 of the fund as prize money for the schools for the Rescue me – Recycle’ competition.

On Monday 2nd December Operations Director Declan Nortcliffe, along with representatives from Leeds City Council went to Tranmere Primary to present winner Dhilan with his certificate and the prize money for the school.
