We are delighted to have had the opportunity to support St Cuthberts Hospice in their annual Christmas Tree Recycling Collection.
St Cuthberts Hospice, based in Durham, provides free care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses, people approaching the end of life, and people that are bereaved. Their compassionate team care for, laugh with, listen to, comfort, and help make special memories for thousands of individuals and families each year.
Hospice care eases the physical and emotional pain of death and dying. Letting people focus on living, right until the end. However, this vital work cannot be continued without charitable donations.
That’s why the Christmas Tree Recycling Collection is such a wonderful fundraiser. With the assistance of HW Martin Waste Ltd and Premier Waste, a record total of 769 trees were gathered by volunteers from local communities. That adds up to an astonishing total weight of over 110,000kg of unwanted Christmas Trees that were diligently recycled.
Providing this extremely helpful service to the community enabled St Cuthberts Hospice to raise £12,000, paying for three entire days of their care. This equates to an average of £14.67 per tree – up more than £3 per tree from last year.
“I wanted to say a massive thank you to both HW Martin and Premier Waste for all of your support with this year’s scheme” commented Erin Wright, Community Fundraiser, “It was such a massive help having the skips available at Birtley and Rainton Arena as it saves us so much time when it comes to unloading. I know the volunteers said that dropping off at the Birtley site was really easy. Although a lot of fun, the Christmas Tree Recycling is a massive task which we couldn’t have done without your support.”
