A team from HW Martin Waste Ltd has raised over £8,000 for the charity, by completing an 18km trek through the Peak District. Twenty-seven staff from the waste business tackled the mammoth trek, climbing 6 peaks over seven hours in July.
Of those taking, only a few were seasoned walkers, so the walk proved a real challenge for some with staff literally putting their best foot forward determined to finish the hike. Starting in Edale the circular route saw the group first tackle Mam Tor before pushing on to other popular hiking routes such the Ringing Roger Back Tor and Kinder Scout. Organised by Social Value Manager Stacey Parry and her team, the walk was led by professional outdoor events event First Light, also a Derbyshire based company, with walk leaders accompanying staff every step of the way, and even providing cakes and other sweet treats at the check points.
Proceeds from the trek have been donated to Derbyshire based charity Treetops Hospice, with the amount raised helping the end-of-life charity provide 74 local people with a night of nursing care.
HW Martin Waste Ltd Director, Adam Smith, who took part in the trek said: “HW Martin are proud to support Treetops, a local Derbyshire-based charity. As a large employer in the area, we are keen to have a meaningful impact across our communities. This challenge really demonstrates the willingness of our staff to support local causes. I’m really over the moon with all the effort the staff have put in. It was a good day all round and a good exercise in bringing people together; a real team effort.”
Claire Mathias Event Manager from Treetops joined the walk and said “I loved helping to create the right event for HW Martin Waste Ltd and it was so kind of the team to invite me to join them on the trek,”.
Director Adam Smith, joined by Stacey and a group of staff who took part in the day presented Treetops with a cheque for £8,040 once all of the fundraising has been collect, counted and verified.
HW Martin Waste would like to thank the staff team, their family and friends, and of course colleagues that donated, as well as the generous donors from our supply chain.
