Waltham Cross Town Centre Improvements Wins National Infrastructure Project of the Year

25/11/2025

HW Martin (Traffic Management) is proud to have supported the award-winning Waltham Cross Town Centre Improvements Project which was named National Infrastructure Project of the Year at the National Project Excellence Awards 2025.

Led by civil engineering firm Danaher & Walsh on behalf of Broxbourne Borough Council, the project was recognised for its outstanding contribution, innovation and social value – with judges commended the team for successfully managing a complex urban environment while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and community engagement.

As the appointed temporary traffic management provider, HW Martin (Traffic Management) delivered carefully planned and coordinated solutions throughout the project. Operating in a busy town centre with high pedestrian and vehicle flows, the team ensured safe access for the pubic and the workforce while minimising disruption to local businesses and residents.

Our approach focused on safety, efficiency and communication, adapting traffic management layouts to suit evolving site requirements and maintaining consistent liaison with stakeholders. This flexibility and proactive collaboration were key to keeping the project on schedule and ensuring a positive experience for the local community.

Beyond the technical delivery, the Waltham Cross Town Centre Improvements Project was also recognised for its strong commitment to social value, providing local employment opportunities and mentoring young people entering the construction industry.

The award was presented at the National Project Excellence Awards ceremony held at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool on 18th September 2025. The event, hosted by the Procure Partnerships Framework, celebrates innovation and excellence in project delivery across the UK.

Reflecting on the achievement, Patrick Cumming, Contracts Manager for Danaher and Walsh, said:

“This is fantastic recognition for all your hard work, and you all should feel very proud. The whole collaborative team effort from across disciplines and individual organisations is a credit to everyone involved, both in the office and at the coal face.

We generally find that a site where the team have the attitude of doing a quality job — a job which they are proud to put their name to — more often than not also has excellent safety performance, and this has been proven time and again here at Waltham Cross. Coming together is a beginning…keeping together is progress…working together is success.”

This award represents a shared success for everyone involved in the project and reinforces the values of collaboration, professionalism and shared responsibility in delivering safer, more efficient and community-focused infrastructure projects.
