TRAINEE OPERATIVE SHORTLISTED FOR A HIGHWAYS HEROES AWARD

02/08/2023

A Trainee Operative from HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd has been shortlisted for a Highways Heroes Award.

Gary Lawrence was nominated by his peers following his actions to prevent a potential death by suicide. Gary was praised for his actions after his quick thinking stopped a member of public in distress jumping from a bridge over a motorway.

Launched in 2021 by Safer Highways, the Highways Heroes Awards recognise those like Gary who have gone above and beyond in their duty to help someone or those who have coped admirably in the face of adversity.

Gary will join others shortlisted at the Grand Connaught rooms in November for the official awards ceremony where the industry will gather to celebrate the success of this years’ Highways Heroes.

Joe Sprowell, Framework Manager at HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd and Gary’s line manager, said:

“I’m immensely proud of Gary and I’m pleased we’ve had this opportunity to recognise his efforts in this memorable way. He, like many others in our workforce across the country, are unsung heroes and it’s important we take a moment to mark their achievements and to say thank you. Gary’s selfless work to support an individual when they were in crisis embodies the philosophy behind Safe by Choice – caring for the safety and wellbeing of ourselves and each other.”

This year, HW Martin (Traffic Management) Ltd is sponsoring the Highways Heroes Special Recognition Award. Taking place during the finale of the ceremony, this standalone prize commends somebody whose achievements embody the spirit of the awards.
