Materials Recycling

The company’s facilities process tens of thousands of tonnes of recyclable materials every year.

The process uses many stages of state-of-the-art technology and engineering to separate the materials. This includes electrical separation of ferrous metals and aluminium and optical sorting of paper and plastic.

The whole process is backed up with several sections of quality control.

Materials include:

  • Newspaper
  • Magazines
  • Catalogues
  • Yellow Pages
  • Envelopes
  • Leaflets and junk mail
  • Cardboard
  • Steel and aluminium cans
  • Scrap metals
  • Foil
  • Plastic bottles
  • Glass bottles and glass jars
  • Textiles
  • Tetra Pak

With considerable experience in operating Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs), we hold a strong reputation amongst UK and European materials re-processors.

We offer a full audit trail for all materials that have been despatched and we encourage our customers to undertake Duty of Care visits at our facilities.

We have made significant investments into specialist materials recovery technologies. In our Derbyshire MRF, known as ARC (Alfreton Recycling Centre), we have developed an advanced process for the cleaning of recycled glass. This is one of only a small handful of such facilities in the UK.  We have also recently invested in plastics sorting technology at ARC, adding further capacity and capability to the sorting process already in place.

At our MRF in Leeds, we have invested heavily in technologies to recover plastics, including plastic bottles, empty milk containers, yogurt pots and trays.

Our Facilities

Closed-loop recycling

H W Martin Waste Ltd’s facilities offer “closed-loop recycling”. This happens when the plastic containers, glass bottles and aluminium cans that you put into the recycling bin are turned back into bottles and cans. In this way, we can reduce the manufacturing demand for virgin materials and place fewer demands on our environment.
